Attorney Matthew Kensky has spent his entire career defending individuals accused of criminal & traffic offenses in Northern Virginia. He started his legal career more than 20 years ago in 1999 at the Fairfax County Public Defender’s office where he spent five years representing thousands of clients in criminal cases ranging from traffic matters to serious felony cases and rose to the rank of Senior Asst. Public Defender.

He has been a fixture in the Fairfax and Northern Virginia legal community where, after his time as a public defender, he went on to work at a well-respected boutique law firm in Fairfax, as their criminal and traffic defense attorney. continuing his passion for defending clients who were in trouble in courts all across Northern Virginia, including Loudoun, Prince William, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Stafford, and Shenandoah counties.

In addition to his trial experience, Matthew Kensky has argued on behalf of his clients in the VA Court of Appeals and in the VA Supreme Court, as well as appeals of VA administrative agency decisions.  Attorney Kensky now joins Scrofano Law PC after running his own solo practice for four years where he represented hundreds of clients all across District and Circuit Courts in Northern Virginia.  According to Matt, “I’m excited to be part of a team at Scrofano Law PC that shares my values. Known affectionately by his colleagues as “The Professor,” Attorney Kensky is the go-to attorney in Fairfax when it comes to understanding and applying Northern Virginia criminal case law. He teaches case law updates at annual CLE’s where he trains and educates other criminal and traffic defense lawyers on annual developments from the Court of Appeals of Virginia and the Virginia Supreme Court.   Matt is the lawyer other Northern Virginia attorneys call when looking for a citation, a specific case, or research to support an argument that just might keep their clients out of jail.  He is well known and respected by attorneys and judges alike in the Northern Virginia legal community.  

Born in Richmond, his ties to Virginia run deep.  He is a graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.  He put himself through law school and earned his Juris Doctor from George Mason School of Law where he was the Managing Editor of the Civil Rights Law Journal and actively participated in the Association for Public Interest Law.  While he is a lifelong Virginia resident, he was proudly born into a Western Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Steeler family.  His hobbies include Brazilian jiu-jitsu, camping, and cooking over an open fire as well as cheering on the Dukes while overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Fall.
